Dog Safety Rules Don’t Change Even If You Are A Radio Presenter

Peter Harvey

“Veteran television journalist Peter Harvey is recovering in hospital after being attacked by two dogs in a park yesterday.

The Channel Nine political reporter was walking his daughter’s dog in Centennial Park in inner Sydney when the unrestrained bulldogs leapt at him, causing injuries severe enough to require surgery.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Harvey told radio station 3AW this morning he was likely to undergo skin graft surgery on his left leg on Wednesday.

I was walking my daughter’s dog Jake in Centennial Park … when two bulldogs leapt out and went for Jake. Unfortunately I got between Jake and the bulldogs.””

Trying to pull your dog away in the middle of a dog fight is an instinctive and natural thing to do. It’s also very, very dangerous. Many people are bitten while trying to separate a fight – often by their own dog.

It’s important to remember that in the heat of a dog fight you may well become the victim. Ask yourself, what good will it do if you are injured as well? And who will be there to assist your injured dog if you also need assisting?

If possibly – stay out or get help.
