HBO’s Lacerating Look At America’s Canine Underbelly

Do television viewers need to see excess dog euthanasia in shelters? Dogs tearing their paws to blood trying to get out of a steel cage? HBO thinks yes. In it’s new documentary ‘One Nation Under A Dog’ the network takes an unflinching look at the side of America’s dog life most people never see.

The fact is – there are hundreds more abandoned dogs (many with health and behavioral problems) then there are homes that will take them. As a shelter Veterinarian of more then 5 years I have seen this problem face on. That is why I too believe that the sight of excess dogs euthanased in a dog shelter is a needed reminder for audiences everywhere, if only it will make one person think of visiting a dog shelter before buying their next puppy from a pet shop.
