Leaving dogs to die in a hot SUV is a cruel and irresponsible act, more so in the hands of Police who should know better. But what strikes most in this case is not the crime, but the punishment – or the lack of it:
‘Two police dogs have died after accidentally being left in a hot SUV in South Texas.
The Bexar (bayr) County Sheriff’s Office in San Antonio on Thursday announced Deputy Steve Benoy has been placed on 10 days of administrative leave.’
That’s right, 10 days of administrative leave. A member of the public accused of such crime would justifiably be punished with a massive fine, if not time in jail. For police officers, it seems the law is different from the rest of us.
If you wanted to argue that the law protects those in power, this would be perfect proof.
