It is often said that keeping a dangerous dog is like owning a loaded gun. In South Africa they are taking that literally:
This is the view of the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development Meshack Radebe. He was speaking at Tshelimnyama near Pinetown, west of Durban, where he visited the family and friends of the latest victim of rabies in the province. 21-year-old Siyabonga Majola was bitten by a rabid dog and died last Friday.”
I have to say, the argument has its’ merits. I don’t know about murder but a manslaughter charge would definitely be appropriate in my view. After all, keeping a dog not vaccinated for Rabies really is like handling a dangerous weapon.
