Is Adopting A Dog Together The New Equivalent Of Marriage?

Marriage is out of favor these days. I don’t need to tell you that. The new generation has worked out that tying the knot is so 2000, and at any rate, who need to be stuck in a rut if you can just hang out together!

But the more things change, the more they stay the same. The new age requires a new commitment ceremony and I am afraid, for many this new commitment has become the big step of… adopting a dog together!

See for yourself, first there is Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez:

“But Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have taken on a more mature approach to things, adopting a pet pooch instead.

The term ‘mature’ should be used loosely, considering they’ve only been dating for eight months and continually tour the world with no stable home.”

Then there is Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart:

“The couple of four years adopted the dog from a Louisiana shelter and the 26-year-old revealed that he instantly became a pampered pouch.

He said: “We were staying at the Four Seasons afterward. He didn’t have any dog food so I got him a little plate of prosciutto.” Robert’s comments come just days after Kristen – who refers to Bear as her child – gushed about the couple’s new dog Bernie and what it was like introducing him to Bear.

She said, “He’s my child, I love him.”

Now, there is a problem here and I think you already worked out what that is. You see, I chose these two examples on purpose because as you know, both of those couple are ‘on the rocks’, aka. not really together any more. And here lies the tragedy, with the fluid nature of relationships nowadays I fear a lot of dog-tug-of-war adoption situations coming up. After all, you can’t just sell the dog and spit the money in half.

Maybe that old fashioned engagement ring is a better proof of commitment then Fido.
